The requirements for the surface to be used on children’s playgrounds is specified by the European Standard DIN EN 1176 and EN 1177. This means that an impact absorbing playground surface has to properly cushion a fall from a certain height. The safety requirement for a surface is determined by the „ critical fall height”, which in turn defines how a specific area can be used and which playground equipment can be installed. The critical fall height is determined by the HIC (Head Injury Criterion)
The safety rubber tile playgrounds do not need the maintenance and care loose-fill surface materials (sand, gravel, bark mulch , wood chips, grass) do. There is no decomposition, concealed contamination, displacement of loose debris, and weather conditions affecting uneven surfaces.
